Most painters wonder if/when is a painting they are working on done. Robert Burridge says something to the effect that it is never"done " you just stop in an interesting place. The infamous joke :How many artists does it take to make a painting? Two, one artist to paint it and the second artist to tell her when to quit.
Both ideas point to the fact that as artists we can overwork a painting by putting to much into it,and in a painting with a good design foundation you can stop painting at many points and still have a finished result.
I try to stop before telling the whole story in my factual based painting and I let the power of suggestion work in the less objective paintings
Here is a work I think is done.
Let me know what you think.
