When Is It Done Part 2

I have been having a to busy life and failed to get a post on line on Tuesday, mea culpa.
My thoughts about when am I finished with a piece are still in flux regarding most of the paintings I can see around me in the studio. The other day an artist friend dropped by and she notice a painting I had posted here earlier the month"Red Boots" and stated she felt a larger shadow shape on the back boot would make a better painting/design.
I thought and looked and she was right, so I changed what"was viewed" for what makes a better design and I now again hope it's an improved painting.
The challenge faced in this painting was the task I set myself, a quickly done painting from a set up I made. The task to record accurately the scene before me, to improve my paint handling/mixing and brushwork. I lost sight of some design elements in the joy of putting paint on panel.
This episode reminded me of the need for a fresh look at the painting itself and what it needs to be better, not just what was in my line of sight. (PS I also lightened the value of the shadow shapes)
Let me know what you think.

  1. Hi Bruce, I"m liking the lightened up values; The back of the set up and the most forward shadow.
